What is sunless spray tanning?
Sunless spray tanning is the spray/mist application of sunless tanning solution to your body. When applied, DHA (the active ingredient in sunless tanning solution) reacts with the proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to form a golden brown color. Your skin begins to darken two to three hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun.
What is DHA (dihydroxyacetone)?
The active ingredient most often used in all sunless tanners including tinted moisturizers, self-tanners, and spray tan solution is called Dihydroxyacetone, or DHA. DHA is a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. For misting applications, the FDA recommends protective measures to prevent eye contact, inhalation or ingestion. DHA is often derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. The FDA added DHA to the list of approved colors for cosmetic products in the 1970s.

Is the DHA in sunless spray tanning solution safe?
The FDA has approved DHA for external application to the skin. For misting applications, the FDA recommends protective measures to prevent eye contact, inhalation or ingestion. To ensure complete protection, the FDA suggests wearing protective eyewear, nose filters, ear plugs, lip balm, and undergarments.

This product is safe, however, for those with skin sensitivities or allergies, it is recommended to consult a health care professional before using the product.

What to expect at your spray tan session when tanning with us:
All of our spray tans begin with prepping the skin using Norvell Pre-Tan pH Balancing Spray. This spray works instantly on the skin to boost amino acid levels and maximize sunless color results. Includes time release micro capsules that help bind moisture within the skin. Its unique dermal barrier helps lock in DHA which means it helps the spray tan solution bind onto your skin and begin to develop into a golden tan instantly. Norvell Pre-Tan is Paraben Free, Gluten Free and 100% Vegan.
Next, we choose a spray tan solution that best suits your complexion. We offer a 24 hour Organic solution that will develop to its peak in a 24 hour period then must be rinsed. Our other option is a Rapid One solution that can be rinsed anywhere from 1 to 3 after being sprayed.
Lastly, we finish each spray tan using Norvell Post Tan HydroFirm Moisturizer. This helps boost your skin’s self-tanning color results as well as moisture levels to hydrate skin. HydroFirm helps deliver Bio-essentials into the skin to rebuild its own natural moisturizing factor. It also contains Antioxidant Fruitprime Extracts that highly enhance your DHA results. HydroFirm is Paraben Free, Gluten Free and 100% Vegan.

If you’re planning on tanning for a special event, especially your wedding, we recommend coming in for a trial spray tan one month before your special day. Making sure that your tanning results are suitable to your expectations is so important for a special day. Then if you’re happy with your results we recommend getting your spray tan 2 days prior to your special day.
Your comfort and safety are important to us. Prior to your wax/facial or peel appointments please let us know if you have any allergies or are using any prescription medications/topicals. If you are currently using any products that list “sun sensitivity” as a side effect (ie: retinols/acne medications/antibiotics) this may preclude you from skincare services at this time.
